Minified Theme - news photos with text

On the demo website for Minified Theme (http://demo.vivatemplates.com/minified/) there are a series of fading images on the home page which have text over the top and links to news articles etc.
I would like to be able to have three of four revolving images there each of which takes an excerpt from a latest blog/new story and links to that story.
Is this possible within this theme?
