Modifying Greek Yogurt

Am brand new here and definitely new at this. I have put up a website with the GY theme. It ishttp://www.arcstart2013.org. Am pleased that things went well and it worked! But I don't like the footer. I am assuming that I would have to modify either the css file and/or the footer php file. When I move the theme files from ...concrete/themes to ../themes will I loose all the stuff I have already done? It would be nice if I could try a change out and then just delete everything if I find that I don't know what I am doing!!

Thanks for any help.

If you copy the theme folder from /concrete5/themes to /themes, you won't lose any of your content or configuration. Make sure you change the name of your theme (edit the description.txt) file so you can tell the difference between it and the original.

Once you've copied your theme, you'll need to install it and activate it as if it was a new theme. It should look identical, except now you can edit the css and html without the fear of a full system update blowing away changes you've made to it. Concrete5 only updates the /concrete folder and nothing ele.

And I can go back (by deleting "my_theme") if I goof up and the changes I have already made to add content, etc. will still be there in the concrete folder? I know it sounds logical that they will be but I am just enough nervous about this to want to make sure first.

I am still a little nervous about this - so I want to make sure - you
are saying that all the changes I have made so far - like header
changes and adding content - will not change when I move the files and
that I can go back if I goof up?

You'll be fine.

Of course when you do something you're not sure about, it's always a good idea to back up your site first... but your actual content is only really stored in two places:
- The database
- The /files folder

Everything else is just the code to work out how to process and display things.

If things don't work right, all you would have to do is change the theme back by enabling Greek Yogurt in the themes section of the dashboard. You wouldn't even need to remove your 'new' theme.

It's no different then changing to one of the built-in themes really. Have you tried doing that? Enable Dark Chocolate or something, then change back.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I will be fine on this but just wanted some confirmation that I understood it correctly before jumping in.
