Themes and Add-On Quaility
Permalink
Dear All,
I'm new with Concrete5 CMS and I like C%. But since several weeks I'm struggling with themes and add-on's I've payed for (I'm not talking about the free once ok!).
Especially the themes I bought are full of basic bug's and I'm asking me if there is one theme without major bug's. Really I would pay 50€ more if it would be bug free, because the time, I'm always wasting, cost me much more.
I've tried Framework, Supermint and Anitya. And if I look into the reviews, there are almost good reviews, but if I look in the Support pages it is clear that they have much bugs.
Is there anybody, how can suggest me a real working theme for C5 v5.7.5.9?
Best wishes
Danny

Hi,
of course I did.
But once you get started with a new CMS and you are searching for a suitable theme and some add-on's and ... if you have to pay for something, normaly you like to ensure, that you get a state of the art quality level. It means the major functions should work. Maybe some really special use cases are not working so well (ok).
Because you put alot of time in the project to get used to the theme (for example). You build up content alot to check the theme strength and then you get sick by major bugs?
Then you try out the next one ... same game?
Should not be. But how ever I got thrue and now, everything I like to know is: "Is there any theme, which is really working well and not only promisses like <easy to costumize>, but then you have to understand the code to get used to?"
Do you have a suggestion for me?
Best wishes

Hello - After looking at the support pages for these themes I believe you're confusing bugs with user's lack of knowledge of how to use the themes.
Unlike many other CMS's, Concrete5 has a Review Board that makes sure these themes and add-ons work properly. You may find little nuances that require contacting the developer, but it will work as advertised.
With that said, you're free to make your own themes or use the default Elemental theme that comes with Concrete5.

Hi,
maby some users (like me) have a lack of knowledge in how to use the themes.
But I read as well their documentation and I can tell you, my expactation about a documentation is much higher to avoid a lack of knowledge to use it.
I except your point of view, but is that all you can suggest "Write your own theme." ?
Do you have any relation to the developer of thats thems that you protect them or do you have positiv experiances by working with taht themes? Maybe you got a better documentation or you spend much more time to get used to.
Best wishes

I also suggested to use the free default theme. What's wrong with creating your own theme? Then you wouldn't need any documentation. No I've never used their themes, and I'm not protecting them.
No I don't have any relations with these developers. I just don't think you're in the right to come on here claiming that these themes are a waste of time and full of bugs.
I'm not sure what your expectation of documentation is, but no amount of documentation will teach you to be a senior developer.

Check out my "Profolio" theme. It's free and simple, and you're free to use it as a starting point to build your own.
Hi,
thanks, the first one with a real suggestion, I will check it!

I'm curious what your trying to do with the themes if you have the same problem with each one. I don't expect you to code your own, I mean common, your just learning how to use the CMS itself, but I am curious what problems your facing as you go along with building your site. Like others said, everything in the marketplace is reviewed in depth by a board of coders, they don't let things into the marketplace that don't work. That being said, there's always ways to improve current and future marketplace items... so, if you could download a theme that worked perfectly for you right now what would it do differently that the ones you've already tried?
I see it seams to be impossible in this forum to get my message placed about the quaility improvement. I'm just a stupid engineer of computer science with to less time to write my own code, to get a website running. And I really know what is a bug and what a bad documentation. How ever to understand customer requirements it is a hard business.
If you read the support pages carfully, then you can see, that a lot of these tickets are not stupid thinks, they are real issues (some are bugs others concept faults).

To be honest, I would recommend Wordpress. There are an almost infinite amount of themes and add-ons. You will probably find their documentation more to your liking. Many Wordpress themes are geared for people with no experience.
To be honest, this is the last suggestion I would ever expect.
And I have worked with WordPress, and I couldn't really use it without documentation. Even with docs, it seems all so funny. Where with concrete5, I could just step in and do stuff. But hey, everyone is different. WordPress has a lot of plugins and themes and that is a major plus for a lot of people (mostly because of the extra word "free" in front of it).
We have been very happy with Fundamental, which has plenty of customization options and phenomenal support. You can check the forum and see that questions and issues are quickly resolved. The developers have even customized the theme for us on request.
Thanks for your suggestion, I will check it.
Have you sent the sellers a request for support?
