By that I mean that the sample theme is perfectly fine for me to work with and modify the design without have to do something from scratch. How should I go with that? Shall just copy the theme from the concrete folder to the application one ?
yes.
copy the theme you want from the themes directory in concrete/themes
and then copy it to the themes directory in the applications folder.
you may need to re-install the theme.
