Dashboard Menu "Access Denied" if pretty urls enabled

I recently upgraded our site to 5.7.5.6. With pretty URLs enabled all users receive an "Access Denied" message is accessing the dashboard menu from the root page of the site. If I disable pretty URLs, I can access the dashboard pop-over as expected.
