Abandoned themes and addons - c5.7 or v8
Permalink 1 user found helpful
Lets keep this thread simple. Pleas list here any c5.7 or v8 theme or addon you think is abandoned and provide a very brief reason why.
Please do not post unless you have attempted to contact the developer and given them a chance to respond.
If you want to give more detail or discuss, start another thread specific to the addon or theme and add a link to your post.
The intention of this thread is to keep it simple and clear, not to digress into discussion.

@goutnet, I was wondering what had happened to you. Good to see you're still doing well :)
A little while ago user sebastienj changed the status of everything he has on the marketplace to free. He has some of the most used themes in the marketplace like Supermint and Vedana.
We interacted a bit in the past and I helped him with a few things so I sent him a PM to ask if he was alright. I never heard back from him.
It would probably be a good idea to keep an eye on his stuff to see if users are increasingly complaining about issues with no support.

Good suggestion actually
I just made all my add-ons free, and just add a possibility for paid support.

Supermint 3

It seems that Supermint stopped working.
If anyone is OK.
I will edit the Supermint theme to remove the compatibility of 8.2.1 and later

Yes, have a disproportionate number of forum posts relating to Supermint issues. I agree. Go ahead and mark it incompatible with recent versions. Also notify developer, so if he thinks we are wrong to do so he can fix the theme.
Would you please make the supermint theme compatible with the latest form block of concrete5?
You need either
a) the developer to make changes
or
b) the developer to give it a GPL or MIT or other permissive license, so others can make changes and distribute.

Thank you for the information.
I sincerely hope the developer could do the updates or allow others to do it.

Your problem with an abandoned theme/addon is not unusual. It is a growing problem with every birthday of concrete5.
The underlying issue is that even though abandoned, ownership and license rights remain with the developer.
Ideally, I would like to see a clause in the marketplace license that defines 'abandoned' and makes anything that has become 'abandoned' open source such as MIT or GPL. However, there are no doubt legal complexities involved beyond my knowledge. Also, I doubt if such a change can be applied retrospectively without the consent of the addon/theme developer. If they are not answering, then changes can't be made.

it is a very bad and serious situation. Personally, I experienced a 'left-alone' situation when the theme 'Grandeur' (purchased from ThemeForest) was abandoned by its author. Several times I tried to contact the author, but all in vain.
But the situation is worse when it comes to themes and add-ons with the c5 site itself. What is going to happen to all the beautiful themes and add-ons developed for 5.6? Many of them remain still operational and being used in many sites. Will the authors be ready to make them available in any other platform or will make them 'open source'? I think its the time for authors to declare their plan and action.
More than that. the situation cannot be worse when the themes and add-ons are left orphan with 5.8. I have seen the themes 'fruitful', 'supermint', 'anitya' and 'vedana' remain without any answers from their authors. We know that the situation will affect the credibility of this beautiful CMS itself. I think there should be a clause in the license to convert any theme or addon to opensource if the author remains unattentive for a stipulated number of days. Or, there should be some arrangements from C5 to ensure all the themes and add-ons remain attended, even though I do not have suggestions on how to make it possible.

Reason:
I am the dev, and I do not have time to continue the develpment/porting of
those. (that said, I still have a few licenses active, and no support
request insofar).
