4- column layout in Internet Explorer
Permalink
Hi guys,
I have been busy working on my company's website (http://www.oryxsim.eu ) and created a 4 column layout using the built in layout options that shows perfectly on Firefox, Chrome ,Safari (including mobile) , yet Internet Explorer 8 and 9 doesn't seem to be willing to join the party.
The 4th and last block of the layout tends to skip underneath onto the next line. Not the biggest of disasters, but I rather like a clean and universal look for the website.
Since the IE version has an alternate CSS, I tried playing around with the width of the containter to no avail. Do you guys have any suggestions?
Thanks and take care,
Florian

What happens if you shrink your images to 239px instead of 240?
No change, the problem persists, the 'main' CSS is 996 px, and I made it as such that the number was dividable by 4. And 240 * 4 = 960, so I don't think there's a problem with the width.
I just assumed it was a 960 width, hence me asking.
I have actually no idea why it behaves as it does and I can't find ccm-image-block class anywhere, as I think the problem might be in there.
Is it the same problem if you use the content block instead of the image block when adding the images?

Hi, thanks for your effort so far. I have tried it earlier with the content block before, the 3 block layout you below those images was originally 4, but that also led to the same trouble with IE. That's why I decided to take it up here this time. The only thing I just noticed with the 4 columns is that the first 3 have a width of 25%, while the fourth says 24,99% , not very logical .
Just a thought... What if you make a 5 column layout and make the last cell super narrow without content?
I'm just thinking out loud, but perhaps that is a workaround. Otherwise I should suggest building a New page type and have 4 content areas instead of using the layout function.

Hi, I figured it myself today, while I was getting ready to write a new CSS for the homepage. While 996/4 = 249 , I had a padding of 5 px on both sides of the Main area and 986/4 - 246,5. That's probably what confused Internet Explorer. I reduced the padding to 4 px on each side so that you get 4 areas of 247 px each... and success!
Thanks,
Florian
