i couldnt find the php that was firing the homepage

the websight is a total bowl of yarn from 5.4.2.2

mixed with a bunch of custom code

...and a rebuild attempt in 2012 with a 5.5.3.1 install...
no one on the planet will ever see a backend quite like this

...no one ELSE i hope

the tidbit that solved it was asking the tech at my host [inmotion]
if he could search a text strong in the host directory

he came back on the line a couple minutes later and pointed me right at it

i scoured code all afternoon looking for where it was loading from...
