Accessing site after enambling maintenance mode

A website newbie, I accidentally enabled maintenance mode while I was editing the website. Now, I cannot access to even edit. How can I disable maintenance mode?

dashboard/sitewide settings/ access at the bottom of the page

This one did not work for me. However, I found the solution on another thread. mysite.com/index.php/dashboard allowed me to access the dashboard.

From there, I Systems & Settings > Login Destination > Redirect administrators to the dashboard.
