Ad-Blocking pac files may interfere with editing
Permalink
Hi ppl,
I'm a new concrete5 user and when I tried to do some editing, I had problems. Mainly, the drop-downs from the edit bar at the top or pop-ups for editing would appear blank. After some fruitless searching, I was ready to throw in the towel.
Then, on a whim (don't know what made me think of it), I whitelisted (telling the PAC file to ignore) my domain and, voila, problem solved.
I use John LoVerso's no-ads.pac file. I'm not sure if other ad-blocking PAC files will cause problems, but I thought I would give a heads up to others, just in case.

I noticed something similar (I think) with Chromes Ad-Block extension. It breaks the Galleria Add-On. The only way I ever discovered this was because I use Chrome at home and primarily Firefox and Safari at work with Chrome as an third-step in my testing process. So, I went home to show the wife my beautiful design and it was broken. Went to work the next day and it was fine. Researched speed issues for about 2 days and then finally tested the site in Chrome again, but this time at work. It worked fine. Went home, didn't work again. Finally, I disabled all my extensions in Chrome and it worked. Then, I Googled the extensions one by one and discovered Ad-Block was indeed the problem and other people had it with Galleria, too. SUCKS that we have to worry about stupid inconsistencies in browsers and now Add-Ons as well.
Interesting. I use Ad-Block Plus for Firefox yet it doesn't seem to be interfering with the editing.
It must be something to do with the subscription rules being used in Ad-Block. For Ad-Block Plus I use the Easylist rules which is not as restrictive as, say, Fanboy's list of rules. I don't need anything heavy-duty since I use the PAC file as well.

Ad-Block for Chrome isn't the same as Ad-Block for Firefox, so it probably has a bit to do with the Chrome browser, too. Chrome is a great, quick browser, but it's pretty damn buggy, too. If you leave windows open too long, the video icons will turn into dead sad face icons. If you switch between tabs while a video is playing, sometimes the video will remain as a ghost in all your other tabs. Stuff like that. But, the Galleria problem was fixed as soon as I disabled Ad-Block for Chrome, so that is definitely the problem as far as Chrome and Galleria are concerned.
Ok... this could be just silly but, does you domain name start with ad, pop, clicks, cash or contain banner anywhere in it?
No, it doesn't. If it did, the whole page wouldn't show. And I don't have any ads on the site. Not yet, anyway. :)
