Add blocks to page where template shows no spot for blocks

Hi all,

I am wondering if its possible to add blocks to empty parts of website where custom template shows no blocks. I have made short video showing what I am trying to do. Any feedback would be great.

I worked it out. Click main bottom left of block > add layout
