add menu with different menu items

Hello all. I want to add a menu in the sidebar with different menu items than in my main menu. So far I haven't been able to figure out if this is possible or not.
Can someone tell me if this is possible and if so how I would do it?

My main menu at the top of my page has menu items.
I want to create a menu in the sidebar with menu items that are different than those menu items that are in the top menu.
This side menu would have three menu items, three pages, and the side menu would appear on each of those pages.

do you want to just hide certain pages? do you want to display subpages? give us a little detail as to exactly what you are trying to do with it...
