Hey folks,
John here, C5 noob. I have a theme that has two blocks side by side in the content are, but I'd like 3 or 4. Is there a simple way add a few more side-by-side blocks, or does it require some tricky php maneuvering?

You can use Area "Layouts" to add more columns inside an area. Click on "Add to Main" (or "Add to " whatever the area is called), but instead of clicking "Add Block", instead choose "Add Layout". Choose the number of columns there and you will get a grid that you can put blocks into.
