Adding $isFirst to Auto-Nav

I'm trying to add the $isFirst function from header_menu.php to the Auto-Nav.
I tried using the predefined header_menu.php but there's no $selectedPathCIDs, so the "root" category page isn't highlighted in the auto-nav.
How do do so Home isn't selected, but other categories are, even if you go into a sub categories ?
