Adding images

I'm having difficulty adding images. When I click "Image" in the add new block dialog box and then click "Choose Image" I get an empty File Manager box or, if I am able to select a file to upload the progress circle goes on and on and no file is uploaded. Any ideas?
try giving your /files folder and sub folders 777 permissions and see if that fixes it?
Thanks for the suggestion Tony. I've changed permissions but seem to be going backwards. At this point I get a blank File Manager window when I click Choose Image in the Add Image dialog box. I also get the blank File Manager window when I click Add File.
I really like this interface on Concrete5. It would be great if it worked.

I'm having the same problem. I really want to use concrete5 but I get the circle thing that keeps going on and on. or I get a blank page. Please someone help. I just uploaded this thing so it couldn't be what i've done.
this could really be any number of things. To provide meaningful direction a phpinfo() call from your server so people can see stats would help.
Its also possible your file permissions are off, or even that all the files for concrete5 didn't upload.

I am also facing the same problem. Tried the suggestions from Tony. It did no work. Earlier there was no problem. Is it a problem specific to 5.3.3.1?
This may be due to missing files, as Franz says. I have c5 installed for two of my websites in my space with bluehost. This problem is there with one website which has 5.3.3.1 installed yesterday. But in the other website, where I upgraded from 5.3.2 to 5.3.3.1, it is not! I think in the 5.3.3.1 installation through simplescript (that is the only one I know)some files may be missing. (All my permission status and every other config remain the same for both of my websites. Anyone please find out the specific missing files and suggest the remedy?
you are absolutely correct-it must be missing files. but it's the only download available now in simple scripts. So I hope someone will make a new version without that problem.
Hey do you know how to simplify wordpress so that I can uplaod pictures or edit content easily? If you can help me I won't even have to use concrete5

Can you try it with a super small image? like something under 50k? If that works you'll have some clues. If there's a way to view the response message you'll get a clue too, but I think it's a bit tricky to get to, cause I think that upload's being done within an iframe. After the upload, inspect the page with firefug, and try to find an iframe. open it up and you should hopefully see an error message there. If this sounds to complicated, you can email me your cms login info and I can give it a try.
not the size, not the permission. the thing is just faulty. concrete5 5.3.3.1
I seem to be going backwords with C5. Previously, when attempting to add a file I would get a file manager window that at least had a browse function, etc. Now I just get blank file manager windows. Sure would be nice to get this fixed as SimpleScripts doesn't offer an option to install an earlier version of C5, only 5.3.3.1
okay, again it seems something is off in the simplescripts install of our app. I'll go yell.

There are a lot of problems waiting for you if you proceed with C5 installations (5.3.3.1) through simplescripts. I tasted them with my installation in bluehost account. I wrote to simplescripts, but in vain.
they'll get it fixed, but yeah - it's not working right through simplescripts today.
I emailed em too..
awesome that people pay for their service but not ours.. some days I /really/ loooove open source.

frz, thanks for your efforts. I think we're making progress. I received a message from Bluehost tech support saying they " restored concrete files from a default install at public_html/concreteTest so your file manager should now be working."
Now when I get to file manager from the add block menu I at least see a couple of demo files there. However, I'm still not able to upload. I've tried a small (44kb image) and it appears to simply hang. The progress wheel spins along but nothing happens. Waiting 10 minutes it continues to look like it's attempting to do something, but never gets there. Any suggestions?

sounds like its still borked, perhaps permissions?
frz - I've just gone back into the application and when accessing file manager from the dashboard I found the image file and have managed to insert into into the home page. Perhaps now it is just a case of learning how to use the application. I'll stay on this and see how I go. Thanks for the help!
I am having similar issues on a couple different hosts, 1and1 currently. I chmod'd /files and subfolders to 777 and then would get "Upload Error: 401" for each image. Very small (~5k) images seem to work with the one-at-a-time browser upload, but I get that 401 error everytime with the Flash multiple file uploader. A little digging and 401 is an error code in the Zend response file for "Unauthorized" so perhaps still a permissions issue. I have a vague memory of 1and1 being weird about the owner of the script, not just the files/directories it uses. I'll try to find that info and will post here.

I've had some success here by chmod'ing /files and subfolders to 775. Doesn't make any sense to me that 777 doesn't work, but 775 does...
Just installed C5 using simplescript and I also had the hang on trying to upload an image.
Now if I go into file manager all I get is a blank screen with File manager at yje top. Tried changing folder permissions but still no change. Seems odd that this has been broke for so long?

And now another clean install on 1and1 and the File Manager works fine. Chalking this up to cheap hosts. I've tested this on a few hosts now and the c5 hosting is the best. Works and is way faster (in my tests anyway).
