'Don't link in navigation' attribute does not work

I have a menu item in my autonav that I would like as text only (note: using Remo's drop-drop down menu code). I have applied the 'don't link in navigation' attribute in the page properties but it doesn't want to apply. I would accept linking it to the first option in the submenu if necessary.

Can't find anything in the forums regarding this problem.
