Blog root as sub page issue

I have a sub navigation that shows children omn the left side bar of our site. One of those items is 'blog' for adding composer items to.
The conundrum is that we want child pages to appear in sub nav but we dont want blog items created thru composer (and reach from a sub page) appearing as sub nav items.
How can we get around this? Am I explaining well enough?
