Building a site with Members pages and using the message function

Hi,
I need some help putting together Profile pages. We have a database of 180+ growing all the time and I need to organise these people in a so they are listed underneath each other. When you click that person you see their profile page and can see their message history etc.
Trouble is I have no idea about how to go about this and cant find any tutorial or anything.
I can see my own profile page but how do I see others? I have lots of attributes for each user but I need to see them displayed, much like Concretes own Members pages.
Also I would like to know how to set up the messages function. Is this email and can you use external email addresses and display the correspondence.
I'm struggling with this and its an area of Concrete I don't understand at all but really need to.
Could anyone direct me to a good tutorial or just list a few places to start with building this please?
