C5 immediate content updates
Permalink
I found C5 actually does not save pages like other CMS but it saves a "composition" to database.
That usually means ALL stuff visible within given editable area is saved as a complete, fully rendered HTML.
Consequently, there is "update on child pages" option available what is intended to execute necessary changes on already-completed pages. Forinstance, if I change text on a menu - I need to "update on chiled pages" in a purpose to let the change affect entire website.
This makes some sense, but on the other hand - it makes C5 very hard to maintain in case of dynamic websites, where content is updated based on content gathered from web services or other automatic sources.
Even in case a blog author would decide to change his/her thumbnail image - it will not be automatically changed on already created pages. Nope - normally he/she would have to re-edit all these entries to enforce new thumbnail to be saved!
This is very annoying and I would like to know what are strategies to make C5 less static and how to enforce specific areas to be "live globally" in this sense, that all their content is rendered from scratch each and every time given page is accessed, so any change is immediate and require no nasty manual "update on child pages" action.
Any ideas? - Thanks ahead!

I see community is silent. So C5 is disfunctional?
Not much time allotted to answer a thought provoking question. As a user of an Open Source CMS... what changes are you looking potentially add to the core yourself?
http://www.concrete5.org/about/blog/open-source-and-strategy/5-7-ro... is published on this site and updated, and I've really enjoyed tuning in to the Ustream broadcast (about every other Friday) as a way to post questions like this and get answers right away.

Where are updating?
Not from a 'Page', but from 'page defaults'?
If you or anyone updates/edits a normal 'editable' area on a page and 'publishes' it is instant and is there to stay. If you update/edit a 'GlobalArea' it is instant and it appears sitewide.
Please explain more about your route to editing and publishing.
C5 community 'dysfunctional'?
Some could be a bit busy and your not actually paying for support.
Like the rest of us, you just hope somebody will pop in and offer some advice.

OK - I will double check changes made in global areas are indeed immediate and sidewide - perhaps I have some caching issue then...
