Can I code a page so that instead of "Main content", a specific block is placed instead?

i.e, let's say I want a page with three blocks: an image and two text fields. Can I pre-set them to be the image and text blocks respectively, or do I have to just set a "main content" field and add the block manually?

You could hard code the blocks. But first read up on page type defaults.
In addition to john's response, you can also set up page type defaults to contain the three blocks you need. They would require editing each time you created a new page, but it definately helps the workflow :)
