Can't add autonav

After updating to version 5.4.0 I am no longer able to add autonav under a particular page. Is there any code in controller.php to enable to get this working ?
The symptoms of the problem are that I have 2 pages beneath 1 page in particular and when I get there to add autonav it's not showing the nave for the pages. It's as if the pages don't even exist. I have checked permissions and the pages are set correctly. Any ideas?
