Can't edit site

I sign in to edit my site, once signed in I can go to the Dashboard and do basically anything in there. The only thing I see that I can't do is access the permissions, design, properties, versions, etc. page of any of my pages when viewing the Sitemap. I even tried rearranging the pages in a different order by dragging one above another and it pops up an error saying "Unable to load sitemap data. Access denied." even though I went to the system & maintenance page and it ran through the jobs including Generate Sitemap File. I have accessed the file using the FTP server and it looks correct... Permissions are 644 on the sitemap.xml file... Also, when I go to a page and click the Edit Page button, it logs me out and I am just viewing the page like normal... I can't add a new page either - same thing happens (Access Denied). Any ideas what is going on here? Please help. I can't edit my site in any way right now.

By the way, I am running 5.4.1.1, just upgraded from 5.4.1 because I was having this issue and wanted to see if 5.4.1.1 would correct it and it didn't, and I have also enabled advanced permission to go through and see if I could find a way around this by creating a new user, assigning to Administrators Group, assigning all permissions to Administrators group that I could find, etc. and still having the same issue...

Extra Info:
I changed the permissions on the config and files folders to 777 just in case and still have the same results...

Anyone have any ideas on this...? Please help, I can't edit my site at all.

Is it only when you try to do these things through the sitemap that you have problems? Can you go to a page and click the "Edit Page" button in the toolbar?
Also, make sure you're using the sitemap that's in the dashboard, not just clicking the "Sitemap" toolbar button (the toolbar button only lets you navigate to different pages, it doesn't let you operate on the pages there).

As mentioned in my original post, when I click edit from a page, it logs me out... and yes I am going through the dashboard to view the sitemap...

Not really sure what's going on. Are you by any chance using IE9? And are you logging in as the "super admin" user (the very first admin account that was created when the site was first installed), or another user that you created an admin account for?

Using google chrome and ie8. I was using original admin account but tried creating a new user and added it to administrators group but that didn't work either...

I don't either... Thanks for trying though.

Is there anyone else that can give any suggestions...?

I have the same problem. Did you ever find a solution? Do you by any chance have this site in a subdirectory? I have been testing 2 identical sites, one in the root directory and one in a subdirectory. The one in the root is fine. The one in the subdirectory looks fine, pretty url's are working, I can sign in as admin, but I can't edit pages. Strange. I'm using version 5.4.2.1 on GoDaddy. I also have a site up and running on DreamHost; it's in the root. Maybe I'll try creating a subdomain and putting it in a subdirectory.

I have the same problem!
Site is running on Dreamhost, had no problems in the last months until I accessed the page from a library. Couldn't edit it and ever since then I can't edit the page at all.
dainger.com/av3d Could it be because its a subdirectory?

Please help!!
Thanks.
