Changing colors in themes has no effect on site

I have been experimenting with Concrete 5 and the default templates. When I change colors in the template, such as the background color, it looks OK in Theme Edit, I then save it, but it does not change anything on the template when I go back to the web site. Is this a problem with the set-up or am I doing something wrong?
hold shift+f5 while on the homepage of your site ;)
