convert existing block to stack member
Permalink 1 user found helpful
I have some exsiting content blocks that I'd like to copy to a few other pages. How can one convert an exsiting block to be part of a new stack? I'm currently copy/pasting content, deleteing the block then adding the stack but its a bit dull.
use the new copy to clipboard tool.
I saw clipboard, but couldn't figure it out.
1. take existing content block, choose 'copy to clipboard'
2. go to stacks
3. add new stack 'test1'
4. click on test1
5. option to add block/version history/delete stack
How to 'paste' the clipboard into the stack?
Hmm, lets look in Add block incase a paste option..
Nope. I can add a new content block, but not paste.
Maybe I'm missing something?

You are right, i'm also looking for this option.
In the previous version we could convert a block to global block.
One more thing:
I'm copying a block to the clipboard, then paste it on another page.
On the page where I pasted the copied block, I see the red border of the block in edit mode is lighter then others. I'm editing the block, i get this msg:
"This block was copied from another location. Editing it will create a new instance of it."
Is this just an info, that the block is copy of another, or what?
Can I do some extra thing with it?
I'm also tried to edit the original block, but the instances are not changed.
Please help me to figure this out too :)

when u paste a block from the clipboard, you cannot edit it in the page you inserted it in. If you do, it will disconnect from the original block that you copied and any change you do to the original one will not affect it anymore.
Hope that helped... :)

Bump.
This is a missing feature. Probably just missed when redesigning the new Stack system, which is awesome as a whole.
I'll submit this and reference this forum entry as a feature request.

Yes, it would be great to add the ability to create a paste from clipboard into a stack block.
Even better, would be the ability to copy an existing block directly into a stack.
It is also noted that editing a stack block on a page will disassociate it with the stack -- however the option should be provided to the user really. Or when additional permissions to allow editing from pages or similar.
Just thought I'd add some feature ideas.

many of us are still waiting on this ability, any update as to when this might get added back into the core?
