Converting existing webpages to C5

From what I understand so far (excellent CMS system BTW) when I want to take my beautiful 'about-us.php' page and insert it into my theme, I have to go into EDIT mode and paste my contents into the editable contnets of the default.php page.

Then save this edit as about-us.

This is what I do for EVRY page I have created in my site until all are in the CMS.

Is this thinking correct?

C5 comes with an About page if you install it with sample data. And yes, if the page already exists, you can cut and paste into the respective page.

If one does not exist and you are on a certain page (Home or About) and you want to create a new page, in the menu at the top select Add Page. It will then give you an option of certain templates that are part of your theme. It will save the page in db and you can see it displayed in your sitemap below the page (looks like a folder) in the map.

But yes, if you have multiple pages to insert, you will have to cut and paste the information in a content block on your page(s) and then up load the images via the file manager and insert into page either inside your content block or as an individual page via the image block.

It will take you a bit of time to migrate the data (a day or two depending on your site) but it is well worth it. Use this time as well to learn the Dashboard and the feature rich management abilities it has built in.

Thanks for your reply Bill,
I was suspecting as much (adding all pages) I don't mind it really.

I just have to figure out how to get my existing nav to point to the pages I want ..

I am ALMOST totally there in understanding the setup of what has become my favorite CMS system (after touring about 12 different ones so far).

Yea C5 is definately my favorite CMS since I have found it. 14 Months ago :)

The navigation has always been something new peeps to C5 want to learn to do. My suggestion would be to take a look at the Auto-Nav Block and then maybe preview the SuperFish add-on. You may just have to modify your existing one to the way C5 handles requests to the sitemap. There are answers in the forums.

There is a push (and it is slowly getting there) for better documentation but I believe that most of the forum visitors/members do a dang good job at answering the questions posed. So ask away.

Hope to see your site soon.

you can script something like this, but it'd have to be a lot of pages, like at least a few hundred.
