Core Commerce - Multi Tax
Permalink
Hello there, I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this in Core Commerce.
In British Columbia Canada, the taxing system just turned back to two taxes (GST and PST). It is utterly ridiculous, because there are rules on what is and isn't charged PST for.
For example, if it is a book, then if a resident from BC purchases it, it would need to include GST. If it is a DVD, then it would need to charge GST and PST.
Is there a way that Core Commerce can handle this?

How does it handle the differentiation of what tax to charge per product, as some might require PST and some might not.
In my mind it would almost be that you would need two different tax rates for one province, and then be able to assign whether the product could handle it.
The problem is that anyone outside of BC would only be charged the one tax (GST) which I have set up for each province.
So, for example, how would this be handled:
user from British Columbia purchases two products (1 book (only requires GST) and 1 DVD (requires GST and PST)).
I am not sure if core commerce can handle this or not?
This is because as a BC business, BC residents that purchase from your store fall into the provinces tax infrastructure.
Maybe having a Tax 1 Category, that you can add tax rates to, and then a Tax 2 Category that you can add tax rates to. Then in the Product Section, instead of asking for Charge Sales Tax, yes or no, it could be Yes, tax 1 only, tax 2 only, no.

in compliance with the Canada Revenue Agency. As of April 1st,
CoreCommerce stores are no longer able to specify HST for British Columbia or GST
and PST (aka PEI) for Prince Edward Island. You're now able to specify HST for
Prince Edward Island. All of our customers collecting tax in either one of those
provinces need to go into the sales tax wizard and update their tax rates.
Thank you for your business! Sincerely, The CoreCommerce Team
