Creating new pagestyle fails

Hi there,
I'm trying to create a new pagestyle.
I'm doing the following:
- take for example left_sidebar.php
- copy, rename to "news.php"
- check the theme, --> new pagetype, seems to work
When I create a site with this new style "news" I expected to get something like left_sidebar.
But it allways shows only the default style without the left sidebar.
What am I doing wrong?

Have you gone to "dashboard > page types" and installed the new page type?
Yes, I did. I can choose that new page style, when I'm creating a new page. But this new page just uses the default page style...
Has anybody else some thoughts on that?
Try to clear your cache.
