Custom Block Templates
Permalink
Hi there, I have been using Concrete5.6 for years and I think I have a pretty good understanding on how it all works. I have created my own templates and customized blocks and everything was good.
I desperately needed to get with the times and so I have started to learn 8.5.1. Progress is slow as it is so different to 5.6.
I am trying to get Custom Block Templates working. I have followed this tutorial:https://documentation.concrete5.org/developers/working-with-blocks/w...
I have turned off overrides caching via Dashboard > System & Settings > Optimization > Cache & Speed Settings
I have created the blocks>autonav>templates>site_map_tree.php file based on the original 'view.php' (this was all as it was in 5.6)
But no matter what I do, when I click on the block and select 'Design & Custom Template', all I get is the little menu with cancel/save. None of these buttons do anything (apart from cancel/save). I do not get the usual 'select template' form.
How do I get this to work? It's doin' my nut in! Am I missing something?
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful
Thanks
Rob

Hi Steve, thanks for dropping me a line.
No, I'm not using the default template. I'm trying to make my own customized template.
Yes, I've tried the cog icon, but no joy.
In fact, it's pretty hit & miss as to whether I actually get the mini-menu to actually appear when I click 'design & custom block' from the dropdown....
So frustrating. I can't work out what I'm doing wrong :(

Not template, Theme.
Which theme r u using. default theme is 'elemental'.

I'm making my own 'blank' theme. I followed the tutorial fromhttps://documentation.concrete5.org/developers/designing-for-concret...
It's basically a blank page with Global (and non global) Areas added
This was dead easy with 5.6... don't understand why it is now so difficult.
It must be a setting I've missed somewhere. I've disabled caching as instructed. What I don't understand is why the 'design & custom template' menu is so intermittent. I now can't get it to show up at all...

Do u have a URL we could look at?
Hi Steve, sorry for the delayed reply... I found out what was stopping the menu showing/working...
It was a bit of javascript that was sitting in the page. Once I disabled this, I was able to apply the custom template as before!
Thanks for your time mate
Rob
