customizing Doc Library add on to include thumbnails

I've bought the Document Library and I am exposing our corporate media assets such as logos, letterheads, etc. These show thumbnails as long as the assets are of a browser-supported mime-type (gif, jpg, png, ico). Everything else (pdf, eps) shows a generic filetype icon.
I'd like all my assets to have thumbs, including the pdfs and eps.
I guess it's likely to require some customization since I'd have to manually create my own thumbs of the files before I can associate them with the file.
I've put in a request for support on Doc Library but I might as well be pro-active and assume I'm going to need to do some custom PHP tinkering. So, where will I find this code (I downloaded a zip file when I bought the add-on) and what will I do with it to make it go?
