E-mail Link Issues
Permalink
I've posted this problem a couple of times and still can't seem to find an answer....hoping the community can help!
I have been having issues with our "mailto:" links throughout my website and can't figure out why. I have killed links and re-added them, had the links open in new windows, made sure pop-up blockers are off....I am out of ideas.
Our site with many examples ishttp://www.northlakesacademy.org/contact-us/staff-directory/,... but all pages seem to have this issue.
If anyone can help, that would be fantastic.
What am I missing folks?

Interesting! I have tried it with Chrome and Safari. It is good to know at least that some browsers work. When I click on a link, it blinks briefly as if it is going to generate a mail window or open a pop-up, but then it does nothing.
It was reported by a colleague using Safari, so I know it isn't just my machine.
Do you (or anyone else?) happen to know what kind of settings that might cause this issue in those browsers?

Like enlil, the mailto links work as expected and appear to be formatted correctly. I tested this using Maxthon (Webkit) and Chrome on Windows 7.
When did you start having issues opening links?
Are you able to open links on other websites?
An example to try:
http://php.net/contact.php
- security@php.net
- "For security related issues (in PHP or our websites) please contact security@php.net."

It does seem to be a persistent issue on other sites with mailto commands, which is odd then of course because as I said, a colleague had the same issues.
Links had worked probably within the last couple of months, I suppose.

chrome ie and opera work as well for me.
Is it possible your email client is just popping up behind your browser window? Because I do notice the slight flicker you describe when a mailto tries to open outlook on my desktop...

I know that no other windows or popups are being opened after the "flicker" we've isolated. I thought maybe it had something to do with a pop-up blocker, but I've tested those already.
I suppose if other users are having success using the links, then I am less worried, but it is still odd and worth sorting out if I can!

Good gracious, I apologize, folks.
Somehow my default e-mail client setting was defaulted. So it wasn't the coding issue, but that the browser didn't know where to open the mailto command.

You've all been very helpful in isolating the problem.
I do appreciate it!
