ecommerce adding product attribute prices to mail/order.php

We have a client that needs more information than the "final price" of a product in the order.php email template. Specifically, they are looking for a breakdown of the price of each attribute and the original base price of the product.

Has anyone else done this before I jump down this rabbit hole with my pet red herring??
