Edit RSS Feed content
Permalink
Hi there,
I would like to be able to take the results of an rss feed from an external source and edit each item as an individual news item. I need to be able to edit the title, summary, etc. and control which items get published to the News page. I have looked at existing News add-ons, but they don't seem to take an rss feed as a source. Is there any existing add-on that might do this, or any suggestions on how to go about doing it?
Many thanks,
Chris.

Have you looked at the RSS Importer add-on in the marketplace? I haven't used it but it appears to save each RSS item as a separate page somewhere in your site. Perhaps you could land them in a temporary location and then edit the specific pages as you see fit and then move then to the final resting spot in your site.

and if that doesn't work still contact me if you have a fairly large traffic client :)
Thanks Scott. I have sent you a PM.
Thank you for the suggestion, but my client will be dealing with potentially hundreds of items a day, so a separate page for each will be a bit unwieldy. Ultimately, they need to be able to sort them in the dashbard, then publish the accepted ones to a single page.
Still looking for solutions on this if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks,
Chris.
Thanks,
Chris.
Although hundreds of posts a day may seem like alot, your db should have no problem handling the volume. What would really be cumbersome is one massive page with hundreds of entries on it; imagine waiting for that sucker to load.
Individual pages could be indexed and searched, as well as cached - loading one page with one story will fly, comparatively. Keeping the stories out of the autonav will keep your presentation clean, and archiving stories older than a date will keep your News page clean, like a blog page.
Good Luck!

unfortunately there isn't anything out there that would allow this kind of control, though it would be that hard to write something for you. If you'd like to discuss this further feel free to PM me, but this is probably a custom app. I have some ideas around this as well, I'd like to be able to merge things in with an rss feed or mix in a bunch of rss feeds in a greater stream of content.
