Editing button missing, how do I find it again?

Hi Concrete5ers,
I recently contracted out a website designing job and asked the designer to use Concrete5 as the final CMS. He has synched the site to match Concrete5, but the editing button/function on the pages has disappeared. How do I restore the previous function without re-installing concrete5 and messing up the website design?
