Error message during backup "Server has gone away"

Hi everyone,

while trying to backup my site before editing I received this message:

mysql error: [2006: MySQL server has gone away] in EXECUTE("select tpID, tpHandle, tpName, tpDescription, pkgID from TaskPermissions where tpHandle = 'backup'")

I already creared the cache but without any success. Has anybody an idea how to solve that issue?

Version running: 5.4.2.2. (which served us fine for months now). I need a little more testing to move to 5.5...

If your site is still working otherwise, one possibility is that it has simply grown beyond the ability of the backup to run within the server limits set by your host.
