ERROR:Unable to connect to database

Hello All,

I am in need of help dealing with a serious problem on a friend's website. I was asked to make a few content additions to a friend's small business website as a favor. My experience with this site has only been in editing content through the Administrator's Dashboard.

Mainly I was asked to:
-Embed several YouTube Videos
-Enable users to register
-Have users register and log in with e-mail

Following these changes the website seemed to work a usual for a couple of days. Then suddenly two days later I began to see the "Unable to connect to database" error. As such, I am unable to access the website.

What could be the possible cause for this error and how serious could it be? Should I be dealing with the original developer or with the hosting provider? Is there a simple way to fix this error without getting the original developer involved? if there is, what information would I need from the developer and how do I go about accessing the site?

Thank you so much for your time

Hi,

Did you checked your DB connection in Config/site.php file .

Please make sure you connection is correct.

Hello andrewjaff,

Thanks for your reply,
As I mentioned, the problem is that I have not worked with this website outside of the dashboard and the in-site editing features. So I have not at any point had access to the site's files, only the front end dashboard. I have no experience whatsoever working with the files for the site.
