Lately I have not been able to set up an external link.
I click on the link symbol and when the box pops up to configure the link, the text highlighting that I did goes away.
It's the strangest thing
Anyone else have this or know what to do?

Were you able to resolve this? I personally haven't had this issue, but when things get finicky I usually go straight to the HTML source code and correct things manually. A quick Google search will give you the instructions on the correct HTML for an external link - it's not hard at all.
