Feedback from a guy that just started with C5

Hi all, As it's the 1st of May weekend, everybody here's away and no phone ringing...Great to go on testing C5 :-) I start now to understand C5 philosophy which is quite different from other 'traditional' CMS. I like the way we can add pages directly from the home page without going into an admin panel. This is cool. I understand there is also no need for first creating categories and sub-categories in the dashboard as we naturally connect pages (or not) when we create them. The very nice idea of building a page by adding blocks reminds me of an amazing HTML site builder I used for quite a while, called Sitespinner. They also build pages by adding blocks but of course in HTML not in PHP. 2 small things I noticed that could be put in the list of improvements for the next release: 1 - I didn't see any way of toggling the color background in the text editor. I have white fonts and on the white background I cannot see them. A small button to toggle the editor background from white to black would help. 2 - When I edit a page then click on an image and select "edit", a popup opens but its height needs to be increased a little. Every time needs to scroll as the "cancel" and "update" buttons are hidden. Small things but let's try to give a constructive feedback. I guess only saying "it's rubbish" or even "it's fantastic" doesn't really help the team to go forward :-) Thank you and keep up the good work !

thanks! you're right there are some windows in the core that could be pushed out a little here or there to reduce useless scroll bars..

the HTML editor actually gets its styles from typography.css in the theme you're using. If you update that css file behind the scenes, you can make the styles that tinyMCE uses match the styles (or not) that you page is going to render..

THANK YOU Franz for your answer ! I am going to try what you said.
By the way as I came accross a recent review about Concrete5 and was in the mood of feedback :-) I added a comment. Just between you and me, I think the guy was not very fair concerning your "About" page. When he says you should concentrate talking about the soft, I think his review should first show the example and focus on the soft, not devote one paragraph about a few lines in your website.
Anyway just my point of view.

Keep on the good work !

That really helps.. You're right, its amazing how sensitive people get when you point out the weak points of the projects they've married their skillset too. go figure. ;)

franz, right now the height of the popup dialog window is fixed, which is a bit problematic, especially for blocks where the edit screen changes in height depending on what options are selected. We could make the height auto-sized by just setting the css height to auto, but it would require a small javascript to center the box in the browser window... probably worth doing.

Tony, I really like that idea! Having an auto-resize option for certain blocks would be awesome!
