Friends Feature Missing Necessary Capabilities.

Maybe I'm missing something here because I can't imagine anyone speaking positively about Concrete5's "social network" capability.
What's the point of "friends" if:
1. Friends don't have to be approved. It seems more suitable to title this feature "favorites." The only purpose I see friends serving is to recall people without having to search for them.
2. Entire profiles are ALWAYS public. So again, what's the point of friends?
Unless I'm missing something, until these two limitations are remedied, concrete5 cannot be considered being capable of creating a social network.

Profiles aren't ALWAYS public, that's just the out-of-box setup. Some people will setup their sites differently than how you think yours should. If you don't like the way things work currently, the beauty is that you can change anything you don't like about the default setup.
Remember, concrete5 is still considered "young" and is in no way a "finished product". Many requests like yours will probably find their way into the core. The great thing is the core is easily modified to make it do whatever you like.
P.S. Looking through the Showcase, I see plenty of sites that can be considered a social network. Not all social networks need to be Facebook clones.
