Global Areas Causing Issues for Themes Prior to 5.5

It seems that all the issues I've been having with the "Edit" option not coming up or that I can't Add blocks in 5.5 is caused by the new GlobalAreas.
Anyone know a quick fix to allow content made on "Area" objects to be called in 5.5?
The only solution I see right now, is re-doing the site from ground-up using the new GlobalAreas objects built into the theme.
