This is something I tried searching for on here..to no luck.

How do we use concrete5 to generate a sitemap Google can then read?

What version of c5 are you running?
The current c5 already creates a file called "sitemap.xml" in your webroot (it has to be writeable) and refreshes it (see "maintenance" in the dahsboard).

but what happens if the xml file is empty after the refresh?

OK, it works!
http://indhearing.com/dev/sitemap.xml...

I did have to go to System & Maintenance > Scheduled Jobs > Run Checked ( making sure Generate Sitemap File was checked )
