help getting started

I had a friend help set up concrete5 for my website from his computer. I downloaded concrete5 to my computer. Messing around with concrete5 on my computer does not affect my website. I am so confused. I know I can log in and use it on the website. What I am trying to say is that I see all these videos where someone messes with the html on their computer and somehow it is linked to their site. I want to edit the html but they are not connected in anyway. What am I doing wrong!!!

After you change any html on your computer, you have to 'upload' the modified files to your server, which is most usually done by using FTP (File Transfer Protocol).

You also have to be sure to download the files you want to modify from your web server first, as they may have already been modified (by your friend) depending on how it was set it up. This way, you are sure not to overwrite something that needs to be there.

I would also suggest that you make a copy of any files you want to modify so you have something to fall back on in case it all goes horribly wrong :)

Good luck!
