Help a new guy out?

I am working on a complete makeover of my current site (kdlive.net) and working with different CMSs, I find this one to be the best. Just wanted to say thanks and I hope I can learn how to use it to my needs. I'm glad there is a good community to back this CMS up, too.

Just a few quick questions, however.
1. How often does the software update?
2. What is with the concrete dir? It that what is meant by the "core"?
3. It is possible to make a global login from another database to work with the cms and a phpbb forum?
4. Is there a cursor in text fields that I am not seeing?
5. Is it possible to implement a news archive like page and its own search function? Is so, can someone give a basic explanation?
6. Lastly, any status update on the marketplace and forums?

Hope you can help; thank you so much for providing a great CMS!

2. yes.. this is also why you just replace the concrete folder when you want to update to a newer version. only modify files in this dir when you exactly know what you're doing
3. probably but that takes a few hours to implement unless someone did that before
4. uhm?
5. Check out the "page list" block.

1: Less and less frequently. Before we went multi-lingual we were sometimes doing a new build every week. Now we're gonna reign that back into release candidates and do major releases on a 4-6 week cycle.

2: see Remo's answer
3: see Remo's answer

4: yeah, are you in firefox 2.x perhaps? ie6? what browser, what field...

5: basically what Remo said. make a "news" page. Add new pages under it, one per article. Give the short description a good chunk of text. Put a page list block on the news page and have it just display pages beneath this page. Do the same thing with the search block. done.

6: I'm looking at a beta of the marketplace now. We're gonna flush it out and launch it before the end of December.

Thank you so much! Very helpful responses. I looked at the other "blog" thread, but this explains it much better. I'll have to play around with it to get it to work similar to wordpress or something, but this will work. (I don't want wordpress because it is not as awesome as c5 for the rest of the cite. ;) ).

I was using Firefox 2.0."latest-release" on my dad's laptop and the cursor(flashing line cursor) did not appear in the forum text boxes. It does work in FX3.

Another minor flaw in the forum while I think of it: The "add post" pop-up does not scroll with the page and stays where it originally popped up. Not a big problem, but could be an easy fix.

Other than that, I think I can understand c5 by playing around. Just wanted to say thanks again for creating such awesome software and I can't wait for the marketplace. Have a great day!

EDIT: Actually, when posting, the reply box never went away and I had to exit out of it. (It did for this edit, though. odd.)
