how to access the server

In order to amend my theme, I have to change some of the wording in the elements folder, which is in the theme folder. The theme folder apparently is on my server. I am very new at this, and need to know how to access the server.

This isn't an answer, but before anyone else can attempt to answer this they will need to know who is hosting the site (who are you renting the server account from).
