How to create password & login box for hidden page

Permalink 2 users found helpful
I want the people in my organization to be able to read proprietary information online, but don't want those pages public on the site. All members will use a single password and username.
I've seen various helpful forum articles on how to set permissions for pages, but how do I create the login box and set the the password value?

login should be at the bottom of each page, and there is also a login box addon if you want to use that. passwords and users can be controlled from dashboard/users and groups. or do you mean something else?

I want to set permissions so only those with a password can open some of the web pages. No editing of the page, just viewing. Is there a tutorial or manual document explaining how to set this up?

We have created a login block that allow you to send user to a particular page after they login.

I would suggest you set up a new user with permission to access the page you want to display this information on, then you can then provide these log in details to everyone in your organisation. Using the login block you can redirect these users to the right page on login.

If you need more explaining can write a quick tutorial over the weekend.

Right - Is the login block you mention in the dashboard - Users and Groups>Login & Registration? I set up the Login & Registration tab for my user. But, where is the dialog to create the password for the user and how will the user login? I assume its not the admin login link that is on the page footer.

What I am trying to do is create a user login that gives permissions to view more than one hidden page.
The Login & Registration dialog gives users permission to access only a single page. If I put links to second level pages on a page that has permissions will the second level pages inherit the permission and be accessible? Is there another way in the Login & Registration dialog to give the user access to more than one page that he has permission to view?

Thanks!

Yeah, they are automatically adds to registered users group, set the permissions for that group. The login is the link at the bottom, it is everyones login.

Yeah, you should be able to do that. Just set the permissions for that page that only registered users can view page. Just go to the page, edit mode, permissions, and that option should pop up. This can also be used to not allow users to edit. Registered users is a premade group, so you don't need anything else

Thanks but where does the user login? I don't see a link on the site pages.

Right - it was simpler than I thought. As you point out by setting permissions for users on selected pages of the website and creating a login permission for a user that I called "owners", I achieved what I needed. I can now send the association members the "owners" login user/pw and they can see the protected pages. And I can put text on the page that directs them to use the link at the page bottom to sign in. Many thanks for your help.
