how to link the registration page to a button

OK i have a button on my page to link to the registration page. everything I put in will not get me to the registration page.
I believe that it may be denied. So what do I have to change and where to link to that button for people to register for our site? I am running 5.7.3.1.
I know it use to to site_theme_path.php but I am not sure where to change it in 5.7.3.1?

are you getting a 404 error?
Have you enabled public registration in the dashboard - the register page will be hidden until then.
