"https" Not Displaying on Secure Site

We have purchased an SSL certificate for our Concrete5 website and have it installed at our hosting provider. When we type in "https" and then our website URL the https is removed and it appears as though the user is at a non-secured page. Is there any way to get the "https:" to show up on Concrete5 sites which have been assigned an SSL cert? Any info or assistance anyone can offer on this item is much appreciated.

Do have "pretty urls" activated? Might be that the .htaccess rewrites the URL so that pretty URLs work and rewrites them to http instead of https?

I do have them turned on but turned them off and the issue remains. I even cleared the cache but that did not resolve the issue either. Any other thoughts or ideas you have on this is appreciated. Thanks.
