I am completely NEW to web building but NOT content management.
My website host is a friend, changed over, and now I'm lost...I had a web designer who was committed to building my site/s, but he literally just DIED of heart failure last week - at a critical juncture in my web development. I just finished mapping out my site (thankfully).
I have tried, repeatedly, to figure out the way to build pages and menus and add content to this site, and cannot make hide nor hair of it.
1. How do I build a menu list of pages in the site?
2. How do I change the order of pages if I have this wrong?
3. I haven't yet found a template that I like completely, but am using Yoghurt for now. What's the best recommended template for musicians? I'm also a world traveller, and want to HEAVILY showcase my video work and photography.
4. Why wouldn't I just build my entire site in Wordpress?
Help!
LL.
PS. You can see my old site by clicking on my JFDI profile here.
PPS. I have an online Facebook forum which has grown to 2800 members in 7 months, a professional forum, and really need to get my act together. Any help...much appreciated. Happy to be on a learning curve, but not to bang my head against a brick wall.

Thank you. I have actually figured out how to add pages - and had tried before. Perhaps I didn't 'save'. Or didn't realize what I had saved.
A few more critical questions, and perhaps I might get this puppy on its way.
1. My provider set up two 'folders' in order to put pages INTO the folders. How do I get those? I have currently too many links on the menu and want to group them, but can't figure this out.
2. If I want to create a custom template using the green and white theme, as a starting point, for example, what I'm struggling with right now is this already:
- that theme doesn't seem to have a sidebar
- I would want to get rid of the Concrete notices at the bottom of the site, etc. so that my fans aren't looking at that
How?
I have tried to expand a sidebar for a different template, and nothing happened. I'm not sure why. It was set at a certain width. I changed it. Still it stayed the same, though it says that everything is completely customizable.
3. Presumably to get rid of my name on the header...well...how? I would rather have my designer design the image to go into the header altogether with my travel photos/logos, etc. Or is this just unnecessary? I can't seem to move my name, for example, and position it where I want. Secondly, I see the alignment of links, up top, isn't right. There's more space above the links than below, and I'm a perfectionist in this regard. I hate sloppy design.
Any other insights re. designing my own template would be much appreciated, as I would like to customize the site.
Finally, I'm sure there is a user guide to Concrete. Where is it?
Best,
LL.

1. No idea what you mean, c5 is database driven, you don't have to create folders
2. What did you actually do? Did you create a new template file?! Did you modify the css? You might want to check my tutorial about creating themes firsthttp://www.codeblog.ch/2009/01/concrete5-theme-erstellen/...
3. See #2, start with the theme, it's not difficult at all and will solve a few of your problems too

Okay, I have viewed EVERY video tutorial on site, and have a better sense of some things, but still cannot figure out how to create a 'parent page'. I now have about 15 links across the top of my page and it's interfering and cutting across my NAME.
How do I create a parent page?
How do I get rid of or at least re-design the header so that my name appears the way I want it and where I want it - or is that a limitation to the CMS?
Thanks a bunch,
LL.

I've started by using Yoghourt too. I'm slowly changing the way the theme works, mainly by the main.css and the header.php
Through some great advice on these forums, I've managed to get a logo in instead of the name. I've also managed to get a grip on the autonav feature - did you know there is a tick box that enables or disables a page in the main menu? So you could experiment with turning some off.
I'm more than willing to assist you - but it may appear to be the blind leading the blind. I'm also more than happy to help in a beginners guide...
Take a look at my site - which is changing gradually each day and see if what I've done could help you:

in general don't really 'create' a parent page, but rather you create it's children. So go to the page that you want to make the parent, then click the "add page" button. the child page will be added underneath. Now go to your dashboard/sitemap. There, you can click on pages and move them about, making pages that were siblings have a parent/child relationship.
The header is largely determined by your theme, which tends to be hardcoded.

Thanks, guys. If you go to my actual link as posted above, you'll see that there are too many links up top. My ISP/friend (not with Concrete5 was able to create a parent menu for MEDIA in the Nav section. I simply can't seem to re-create this, and it is so really...frustrating. Not sure what the problem is. I've tried to change to the other templates, but they're not attractive.
Regarding the boxes, etc., I'm still perplexed by whether you can resize them. Can you?
Thanks.

I would like to know is there is a user manual or is everything by video tutorial. If so, how are the tutorials organized so I don't waste time searching for them. I am new to Concrete and I am researching if this is the platform for me and someone else.
Thanks.
Thanks.
2. Go to the sitemap, click on it and hit change order and drag'n'drop your pages
3. I doubt that everything would have the same opinion about that, why don't you create your own?!
4. Because wordpress is more to manage a blog and not so much a website. There are some wordpress extensions to add some more features. If you want to add complex content (gallery, form) on a single page you'll realize that C5 is a lot more powerful..
