I cannot edit my home page

I can login as the admin but there is no edit or dashboard tab on the home page. I can click on other pages and I can edit them with no problem. Can anyone out there help me out?

Check the following:
- header- and footer required in your homepage theme?
- z-indexes too high in your css?
