Image Uploading - Automatically resize

Under C5 Dashboard 'Systems & Setting/Files/image Uploading' there is an option to 'Automatically resize uploaded images'.
Does anyone know what this does as cant find documentation?

I was working with C5 version 5.7 and its a bit clearer on v8.
I didn't realise that you can change the file manager image thumbnail size, so that is really cool as my eyes cant cope with such small previews so I've made them bigger. You have to select each image listed then ask it to 'rescan' and it builds the image thumbs again.

So, if you set the max image width to 800px and you upload an image that is bigger, it will be resized automatically.
It does what it says on the tin..
