Images not showing in File Manager

Hi all,
I've downloaded some images which show in file manager, however the thumbnail doesn't show up and also doesn't show on the site either. After reading a few other posts with similar issues I checked the file in the backend and had to change the permissions to 755, this still didn't solve the problem.
Any ideas?
